MLM 2009: Another Year of Change

copyright, 2008, Debbi A. Ballard All Rights Reserved.

MLM is changing.

Yes, change is everywhere. We know it’s a constant in our lives.

We also know this, however.

Change can be good or change can be bad.

The Internet has created major changes in the way we do business.
Every facet has been affected…operations, marketing, finance, etc.

MLM is taking part in that transformation.

While there have been many obvious advantages experienced through the use of the Internet and more sophisticated technology, so too, have there been some pitfalls.

Are people now relying on it too much to grow and sustain their businesses?

Has it diminished personal relationships with customers/reps?

Has it created even more legal dangers than we have already faced previously?

Has it caused MLM companies to experience far more headaches when it comes to monitoring their employees and independent reps?

Has it increased the flow of inaccurate, sometimes harmful information?

Has it contributed to a decrease in loyalty by reps to their MLM companies?

Yes, the Internet has changed the way we do business.

Yet the key to future success in 2009 will be what it has always been in past years…

combining the best from what we previously did
with the best of what we now can utilize.

The key to success is not one or the other.

It never has been.

It never will be.

Have a great New Year and join us here on our mlm blog on best practices with your comments on how MLM will change in 2009.

  1. Hi Debbie,
Great post. I wrote a similar post on my blog (http://www.truestarservices.com/blog/?m=200811). While I think the core values in direct selling haven’t changed, the technology to facilitate business sure has for better and worse. I love the new site and look forward to more great articles. I also purchased your “Sixty Things you Should Know” book and would recommend it as a primer for anyone looking to start a new company and needs to understand commissions. It will help them work with a consultant instead of going in blind.

  2. Damon, I truly appreciate the kind words. So glad you love the new blog and enjoyed the ebook I wrote on MLM compensation plans. Let’s stay in touch.

  3. It is my belief that continual changes on the web will make us all a better business person. Yes, it can be a bit of a let down when unexpected things come up that seem to ruin a lot of hard work, time and energy; however, it just makes us smarter when we solve the big mystery of the new puzzle and better our business techniques.
