MLM Software Best Practices: Tips on Selecting a Vendor

copyright, 2009, Debbi A. Ballard All Rights Reserved.

Today you’ll get important information relating to mlm software best practices. You’ll secure tips about how to select a vendor. Selecting the right mlm software vendor is critical to the success of any mlm company.

As you know, my firm develops MLM compensation plans for mlm network marketing companies. It is a tedious, labor intensive process that must take into account an incredible array of variables. These include sales and marketing issues, financial, legal, and administrative challenges.

Even when an mlm compensation plan is properly constructed, the plan must be programmed correctly so that networkers receive accurate payouts. Believe it or not, there have been instances reported where this was not done and networkers received erroneous bonus checks the first few months after the launch.

My firm takes an integrated approach to avoid such problems. That is why we include interaction with the mlm company’s mlm attorney and the firm’s mlm software vendor whenever we design an mlm compensation plan. This integrated approach has prevented mistakes and saved our clients time, effort and monies.

In addition to the programming of the compensation plan, there are many other products/services that mlm software vendors provide clients. Some mlm companies will invest in an entire package while other firms select only certain modules.

As we start exploring mlm best practices for our mlm software section, today we begin with some tips from Jennifer Bennett, Director of Business Solutions from Jenkon.com. For decades, Jenkon has been providing software solutions for the mlm direct selling industry. (Other mlm software vendors will also be contributing to our mlm software best practices section later on.)

Jennifer suggests that you ask the following questions when looking to select an mlm software vendor for your mlm company:

1) How long has the software company been in business?

An established mlm software vendor will have gained more industry experience which will be reflected in the software package. You’ll find more features and enhancements that your business can leverage immediately.

2) What database does the solution use?

Microsoft SQL Server is best in class and highly scalable

3) Does the mlm software allow you to have full control over the branding of the Personal Website & Business Portal?

If you can’t, be prepared to always be paying your software vendor to do this work for you.

4) Are you allowed to setup your own compensation plan models and making plan changes on your own?

This flexibility will allow you to be in total control over your contests, incentives and compensation plans. Modeling capability is a must for a Direct Selling Business.

5) Does the mlm software support international expansion?

A robust package should address language, taxes, cross-border sponsoring, currency and many other international aspects

6) What features and modules are available?

Be sure to have listed out everything that you think you’ll need and compare your list to their list.

7) Who are your existing customers and what part of the software are they using?

This will give you a sense for what type of customer experience they have and a measure of scalability to the software.

8) How often do they release new versions of the software?

They should release 2-4 new releases each year. This is important because it shows the vendor’s commitment to software development and providing you and your company with new features on a regular basis.

9) Is the mlm software PCI Compliant?

The Payment Card Industry (PCI) has established security rules for managing credit card data. If your software is not PCI compliant you can find yourself with huge fines, in the millions, for not protecting and properly securing credit card and other personal information.

A “thank you” to Jennifer and Jenkon for the tips relating to mlm software best practices on how to select an mlm software vendor. Tell us what you think about them. We’ll be adding more tips from other vendors in the near future to our mlm consultants’ blog.
