There is a new Google penalty for doorway pages that was recently announced. The search engine will look closer at doorway pages and will penalize sites that utilize them. So if you are using them, then you could find that your search ranking will be lowered.

How do you know if you are using doorway pages?

Five Questions to Ask Yourself to See if You Have Doorway Pages

In the video above by PosiRank, there are five questions that Google asks to help you discover if, in fact, you have them. They include the following:

1) Does the page have irrelevant information to the visitor and is only there to optimize for search engines?

2) Are you using the page to rank for generic terms but the page itself provides only relevant information for very specific terms?
(Example: You use the page to rank for Arizona but the page is only about Tempe, Arizona.)

3) Is the page providing content that is duplicated on other pages on your site just to rank for certain search terms?

4) Is the page being used to get visitors to go to affiliate or other offers for which you can receive compensation with the page itself offering no relevant, unique information to the visitor?

5) Does the page have links that drive the visitor to other internal site links just to get more search traffic? Are you putting links on other pages on other sites just to get more search traffic to another site you own?

Answer these five questions and then make appropriate changes and/or eliminate your doorway pages altogether. Staying abreast of your rankings is very important so addressing this new Google penalty for doorway pages is a must. You don’t want to work hard providing great content, get high rankings, and then lose them due to changes by the search engines.
